Following an exciting opening stage, the second day of the 44th SPIE Internationale Junioren Driedaagse is underway. Denmark’s Elias Andersen starts the time trial in the yellow leader’s jersey, but will he be able to hold on to his lead during the morning’s race against the clock in Westdorpe? Belgians strike in the final stage of the Junior Three Days (Video)

The ultimate apotheosis followed during the final stage in the Flemish Ardennes with start and finish in Strijpen. In it, the Belgian Thor Verleysen (Avia-Rudyo Cycling Team) surprised friend and foe by choosing the attack 70 kilometers from the end. At first he still had company, but he continued the largest part of his journey solo.

On Saturday morning, a time trial was scheduled in the pouring rain. Samuel Gunnink (Wielerploeg Groot Amsterdam) started early and was therefore able to benefit from a relatively drier road surface and claimed victory ahead of the Czech Daniel Kubena (Roman Kreuziger Cycling Academy). The latter became the new leader in the general classification with his second place.

The Norwegians of Team NTG/Uno-X dominated the race. The peloton was pushed aside several times by the Norwegian steam train. Due to several crashes, the race was neutralized twice, which meant that a mass sprint had to provide the decisive result. In this, Filip Smoras brilliantly completed the preparatory work of his teammates of Team NTG/Uno-X.

Marius Dahl has won the 42nd edition of the Internationale Junioren Driedaagse van Axel. The Norwegian and his teammates from Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale dominated the race from the start and crowned this with no fewer than three stage victories and the overall victory. “It still has to sink in,” he said after the final stage, which he rode on his eighteenth birthday.
